Slough Creek is a world famous cutthroat trout stream of unusual beauty with an abundance of fantastic fish and a good insect population.  We fish in mostly open meadows and sub alpine basin.  The Yellowstone Cutthroat is a rare breed of trout that is butter yellow with olive backs and black spotted sides and the trademark “cutthroat” orange slashes under the jaw.  The bottom of Slough Creek is mostly sand silt or fine gravel so you can see the fighting action.  We release these wilderness trout so they live to catch again.  This is a splendid angler’s paradise in the world lifetime of memories.

Slough Creek Outfitters offers unforgettable horseback camping and fishing for your family and friends.  We are authorized to operate under special permit by Gallatin National Forest and by concessionaire contract to serve the public in Yellowstone by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior.

Slough Creek Outfitters base camp is located just north of Yellowstone National Park.  We camp in the nearly million acre Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area.  The nearest airport is Bozeman, Montana, 120 miles from the trailhead.  The closest town is the north entrance to Yellowstone at historic Gardiner.  There are some nice motels there, including a Best Western, Super 8, and Comfort Inn.

Our deluxe back country camp is complete with carpet, comfortable cots, shower, and full course hearty meals.   Fish pristine Slough Creek or take day rides with the backdrop of incredible vistas.  We offer absolutely spectacular horseback riding.  Relax around the campfire in the evening and recount your adventures.  Plan three to five days for your incredible family or corporate trip. We do have a four person minimum; if you cannot meet that requirement,
we may add another group of guests to your trip.

We meet at the Slough Creek trailhead in YNP at 10:30 a.m.  Enter the north entrance at Gardiner, Montana.  Head for Mammoth Hot Springs, then take a left toward Tower Junction, where Teddy Roosevelt made camp.  At Tower, turn left toward Cooke City, and go about six miles.  Just after you cross the Lamar River, you will come up a hill and see the Slough Creek Campground turn to your left.  Drive down that good gravel road until you see the big aluminum horse trailers and hitch racks, just before the campground at  the banks of Slough Creek.  We’ll be there!  It’s about 30 miles from Gardiner.

Wait until your arrival to buy flies; local fly shops in Livingston or Bozeman will know what’s hitting at that time and will also have Montana fishing licenses available.  Cost is $60 for the season or $15 for 2 consecutive days with a $10 conservation fee added to each.  You can buy Yellowstone National Park fishing licenses at the entrance gate for $15 for 3 days, $20 for seven days,  or $35 for the season.

Your nonrefundable half deposit holds your trip, with the balance due on arrival.  Price is $400 per person per day.  Day rides (which include a sack lunch) are $200 per person per day with a four person minimum.
If you already have an approved campsite permit on Slough Creek in Yellowstone Park, we offer packing in your gear for $150 for the packer and $100 per pack animal.  If you would like to ride in to your campsite, it's $200 per riding animal.
